Jenny M. Steinman Heyden Teaches ART!

Jenny Steinman Heyden, Arts Integrator and Teacher since 1997

Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education puts artists (like me)
from the community into the classroom paired with teachers interested
in developing their curriculum in interesting ways!

The Green Unit has evolved over the past few years from a way to study dinosaurs, then the color green, to Green Energy and Conservation. We have developed the "Green Team" at Agassiz School out of this poject. Now, in 2007-08, the group of students working with Akemi Taguchi, will attempt to get one classroom to "Go Green" by purchasing a solar panel for the school's roof. Stay tuned to see how that goes!

We're making a whale mural! The students create the whale by forming one on the paper and the artist (that's me) tracing them.

Next we painted it in mixing colors of the Beluga whale at different ages:

1. 4th Grade, Hawthorne School: "I Can Make a Difference" Integrated Arts and Poetry
Unit kicks off on May 9, 2002, and runs through June 4th.
In this unit we will create Medicine Wheels of recycled art to represent the four elements, Earth,Water, Wind, and Fire.
Students will write four different types of poetry and feature one of the elements in each poem.
These poems will be hung, then, from the four elements on the Medicine Wheel.
The second part of this unit will encourage the
theme "I Can Make a Difference"
and students will write poems and think about the larger issue of recycling and the Earth.
These poems, along with clippings from magazines, will be glued onto a wooden chair, thus creating the "I can make a difference" chair in each of three classrooms.
